Andromeda Klein (Delacorte Press)

Skylight Books is partnering with the Los Feliz Library for this exciting event with the author of King Dork. His new young adult novel, Andromeda Klein, follows a quiet, bookish girl with an unexciting life--until her world takes a turn for the weird. Strangely and suddenly, Andromeda's tarot readings have begun to predict events with bizarrely literal accuracy.

Frank Portman (aka Dr. Frank) is the singer/songwriter and guitarist for the influential East Bay punk band the Mr. T Experience (MTX). MTX has release about a dozen albums since forming in the mid-1980s, and continues to record and tour. Frank has written and recorded a theme song for this book that will be released upon publication and available for purchase on iTunes. Portman's first book, King Dork, was embraced by teens, adults, music lovers, Catcher in the Rye fans and haters, and the literary community. It has recently been licensed by Will Farrell's production company. Andromeda Klein is Frank's second novel for young readers. He lives in Oakland, California. Tom Henderson (a.k.a. King Dork, Chi-mo, Hender-fag, and Sheepie) is a typical American high school loser until he discovers the book, The Catcher in the Rye, that will change the world as he knows it. When Tom discovers his deceased father's copy of the Salinger classic, he finds himself in the middle of several interlocking conspiracies and at least half a dozen mysteries involving dead people, naked people, fake people, ESP, blood, a secret code, guitars, monks, witchcraft, the Bible, girls, the Crusades, a devil head, and rock and roll. And it all looks like it's just the tip of a very odd iceberg of clues that may very well unravel the puzzle of his father's death and-oddly-reveal the secret to attracting semihot girls.
Being in a band could possibly be the secret to the girl thing-but good luck finding a drummer who can count to four.

Andromeda Klein has a few problems.
Her hair is kind of horrible.
Her partner-in-occultism, Daisy, is dead.
Her secret, estranged, much older and forbidden boyfriend-in-theory, has gone AWOL.
And her mother has learned how to text.
In short, things couldn't get much worse. Until they do. Daisy seems to be attempting to make contact from beyond, books are starting to disappear from the library, and then, strangely and suddenly, Andromeda's tarot readings are beginning to predict events with bizarrely literal accuracy.
Omens are everywhere. Dreams; swords; fires; hidden cards; lost, broken, and dead cell phones . . . and what is Daisy trying to tell her?
In the ensuing struggle of neutral versus evil, it's Andromeda Klein against the world, modern society, demonic forces, and the "friends" of the library.
From Frank Portman, author of King Dork, comes another unique literary experience. Andromeda Klein is dark, funny, smart, and entirely unforgettable.
